Different states have different deadlines and requirements for voter registration. If you have any questions about the voter registration process, connect with your local elections official (in different states this may be a Town Clerk, a Registrar of Voters, or a County Board of Elections Officials).

Alabama: Register online or by mail by October 19th.

Alaska: Register by mail. Mail-in registration must be postmarked by October 3rd. Online or in-person registration must be completed by October 4th.

Arizona: Register online, by mail, or in person by October 5th.

Arkansas: Register by mail or in person by October 5th.

California: Register online, by mail, or in person by October 19th. Voters can also conditionally register beginning October 20th. Voters may also register in-person on Election Day, November 3rd.

Colorado: Register online or by mail by October 26th. Voters may also register in-person anytime before Election Day, November 3rd.

Connecticut: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 27th. Voters may also register in-person on Election Day, November 3rd.

Washington, D.C.: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 13th. Voters may also register in-person during early voting or on Election Day, November 3rd.

Delaware: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 10th.

Florida: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 5th.

Georgia: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 5th.

Hawaii: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 5th. Voters may also register in-person on Election Day, November 3rd.

Idaho: Register in-person, online (by midnight) or by mail (received by 5 pm) on October 9th. Voters may also register in-person on Election Day, November 3rd.

Illinois: Registration sent by-mail must be postmarked by October 6th. Register online by October 18th. Voters may also register in-person up to and including on Election Day, November 3rd.

Indiana: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 5th.

Iowa: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 24th. Voters may also register in-person on Election Day, November 3rd.

Kansas: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 13th.

Kentucky: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 5th.

Louisiana: Register by mail or in-person by October 5th. Register online by October 13th with a valid Louisiana driver’s license.

Maine: Register by mail by October 19th. Voters may also register in-person up to and including on Election Day, November 3rd.

Maryland: Register online or by mail by October 13th. Voters may also register in-person on Election Day, November 3rd.

Massachusetts: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 24th.

Michigan: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 19th. Voters may also register in-person on Election Day, November 3rd.

Minnesota: Register by mail or online by October 13th. Voters may also register in-person up to and including on Election Day, November 3rd.

Mississippi: Register by mail or in-person by October 5th. Mail-in registration must be postmarked by October 5th.

Missouri: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 7th.

Montana: Register by mail. Mail-in registration, per Governor’s order, can be received up to October 26th.

Nebraska: Register online or by mail by October 16th. In-person registration is available through October 23rd.

Nevada: Register online by October 29th. Register by mail or in-person by October 6th.

New Hampshire: Register by mail. Mail-in registration must be received by October 21st through October 28th, depending on the town. Voters may also register in-person until Election Day, November 3rd.

New Jersey: Register by mail or in-person by October 13th.

New Mexico: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 6th. In-person registration is also available on October 31st. Some counties are no longer accepting in-person registration due to COVID-19.

New York: Register online or in-person by October 9th. Registration by mail must be postmarked by October 9th and received by October 14th.

North Carolina: Register online or in-person by October 9th. Registration by mail must be postmarked by October 9th and received by October 14th. Voters may also register in-person through November 1st.

North Dakota: No voter registration necessary.

Ohio: Register online or by mail by October 5th.

Oklahoma: Register by mail or in-person by October 9th.

Oregon: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 13th.

Pennsylvania: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 19th.

Rhode Island: Register online, by mail, or in-person by October 4th.

South Carolina: Register in-person by 5pm on October 2nd. Register online by October 4th. Registration by mail must be postmarked by October 5th.

South Dakota: Register by mail or in-person by October 19th.

Tennessee: Register online or by mail by October 5th.

Texas: Register by mail or in-person at your county’s Voter Registrar’s Office by October 5th.

Utah: Register online or by mail by October 23rd. Voters may also register in-person up to and including on Election Day, November 3rd.

Vermont: Register to vote online, by mail, or in-person up to and including on Election Day, November 3rd.
